March of Giants: Marketing Website Brainstorm

March of Giants is a free-to-play 4v4 war MOBA developed by Amazon Games Montreal. Players will embody larger-than-life Giants to command thousands of soldiers in battle, making use of strategic tactics and multiple abilities. In the concept stage, I partnered with a fellow UX Designer on my team to brainstorm several concept websites that pushed the visual envelope for Amazon Games websites.

01. Visual and Interaction Design

I pushed the March of Giants to include more motion and aesthetics than our usual gaming websites to include feasible animation and highly graphical aesthetics that make the giants jump off the page.

02. Game Studio Collaboration

With this project came new cross-collaboration with the Amazon Games Montreal team in addition to the usual Software Development Team. I facilitated reviews and iterative loops to make sure I had their vision in mind when creating designs.

At the concept stage of this website, the goal was to design for the announce phase where we would encourage players to sign up for the playtest.

Since initially, we wanted to hide the giant’s face, I wanted to show a little mystery by having the giant star at top while teasing the world of March of Giants below in a quick animated video.

Iterating further on that hidden giant mystery, I decided to play with more animation by introducing the smoke of the battlefield (very subtly so as not to distract too much from the entire site).

As the player scrolls down to learn more about the game, it appears as if the ground rises up as they read up on the foundation of the game and lore.

Lastly, I wanted to try introducing brighter paper textures that show off the schematics of the game world and the technology within it. Signaling that this is somewhat of a renaissance time where giants were constructed from giant eggs.

My UX partner and I showed many ideas for what the website could look like. Ultimately, the studio went in a slightly different direction and the project was handed off so I could focus on the Amazon Games rebrand.

The current March of Giants website feature’s a cinemagraph of the giant alongside the soldiers, heavily influenced by my 3rd concept that features the video of the giant walking away.
